Hi and welcome to J.Lee Arts and Music. I’m saddened to hear and still can not fully comprehend the absolutely devastating and tragic news of the passing of Ivy Woods. She was a bright spark, inovator and fearless doer of art and activism in the SF creative family and will be greatly missed. My deepest sympathy goes out to her dear friends and family in this time of mourning.
Seal Rock, Ocean Beach, SF
Seal Rock/Ocean Beach, SF acrylic on canvas 11 x 14
It was great to get out again as it’s been a few weeks since I did an outdoor piece. It was an intense day of windy sandblown weather at Ocean Beach. Sand was filling up in my paint box and I was often holding the canvas in place so it wouldn’t blow over! I got the shivers which lasted an hour after I finished and took refuge at Simple Pleasures cafe in the Richmond District. As I was leaving the site, the painting blew off the canvas and went sailing down the beach! luckily it was already dry. on my was to said cafe I scored two really nice 11 x 14 frames on the street! Bonus karma for a slog of a day. It was my first time using cerulean blue for the sky which I really like. Also for the water I mixed raw umber, phtalo blue and phtalo green, tinted with zinc white. Still working on the ocean color match but I like how it came out.
Upcoming show: Six Solos for Solstice @ Adobe Books 6/27, 7:00
Looking forward to this upcoming Six Solos for Solstice function at Adobe where a weave of our good friends and songsters will be looming up acoustic sets. This will be our annual Summer Solstice party. Marina and I don’t make a big deal of it but we’ve been throwing these salon poetry/music events for the equinoxi and solstices at our apartment. It’s become a bit of a regular thing over the, I’m guessing, 15 years we’ve been doing it and I feel like it’s been contributory to cohease our creative community. There’s always new and talented readers and guests from across the city, bay, state and beyond blending in with the usual suspects. This event will take place at Adobe this time. Pull Up!
TRONA/Warm Spell at the Make out Room 6/15
Thanks to all who came out to the Make Out Room for this night of immersive psychedelia. TRONA was amazing. Had a great time dancing like a fool with many good friends. Warm Spell had a blast airing out the room with a mash up of sound. Thanks again to dancers Jessie & Jesse, Linda Hagood and Sally Hahn-Morris, sound tech Kenny and bartender Justin for a great night.
Static Faction/Analog Girl Finally Released after 28 years

Listen Here: Ironically coming to your phone almost 30 years after it was recorded, Analog Girl by Static Faction will be released on all the streaming services May 30th. What can I say, I guess a lot of people from back in the day really like this album. I like it too. I almost forgot about it and was not sure it really existed or if it was a dream or if I’m dreaming right now. Check out this timeless classic of an album by one of SF’s mythological unicorn bands of the mid to late 1990’s Starcleaner universe. Welcome back old friends, welcome new fellow travelers. Thanks to John Driver for all the label work that went into this process.
"In Case of Emergency..."
Made this piece whilst futzing around in my studio last week. Somebody left a large container of Elmers glue on our free library so I took it in and poured some shapes onto this small 9 x 12 canvas. All pigments are fabric dye with some white interior house paint. I really like the reactive quality of pouring dye though it can get a little out of control, mess wise. I used a few gauges of screen to create grid textures and lines. I totally went off the rails from my original intention but am happy enough with the final results. As always, it’s a stepping off point for further experiments. Funny how thought out abstract art concepts are and how difficult it is to pull off ideas satisfactorily. It’s not as easy as slapping around a bunch of paint (though you can get lucky occasionally).
Best of Luck!
Thanks!
